What We Were Telling You in The Weekly Commentary ONE YEAR AGO
It’s interesting to look back to Mid January 2008 to see if we were keeping you informed. Here is an excerpt from January 21, 2008:
“Given my general avoidance of forecasts, there are few situations when I would state my views about the market as a “warning”. Unfortunately, the current set of conditions provides no historical examples. So, I am even more skeptical than normal about the ability of any and all “experts” to predict the market direction in the near term. For that reason, I recommend that we have a meeting or a telephone discussion to address the following:
* What is the downside risk of your portfolio?
* Are you comfortable with the asset allocation of your portfolio?
* Do you have emergency cash reserves to weather a down turn in the market?
* Are you anticipating large withdrawals from the portfolio in the next two years in order to make large purchases?
* What is your income tax situation and are there some moves we can make now to reduce your 2008 income taxes?”
