Personal Notes
This weekend my wife Jo Anne and I performed on site, field testing of the economy at the King of Prussia mall (i.e., shopping for my daughter’s upcoming wedding.) I enjoyed the opportunity to observe the K of P shoppers. My initial observation indicated there were many shoppers at the mall. BUT, closer inspection indicated few shoppers carried any merchandise. The majority were walking empty handed. And, I noticed many stores were sparsely populated. The stores with the most shoppers appeared to be the stores with the largest SALE advertisements. The only line I stood in all day was to buy my Tazo green ginger tea at Starbucks and that line was half its normal wait with only two personnel behind the counter. All of this is NOT good news.
I am fearful that consumers have already spent their larger than normal income tax refunds. And, shoppers zip into malls to snap up SALE items then depart content to wait for other coveted merchandise go on sale.
For myself, I noticed some attractive dress shirts with a well known logo on the pocket – but not on SALE – so I’ll wait until they come to their senses and offer them to me at a better price.
